Spread Betting - Bankroll management

Bankroll management is one of the less interesting topics surrounding financial spread betting but to be a profitable trader it’s a vital skill. Spread betting the financial markets can be highly volatile and at some point every trader will lose or have a series of losing trades. It’s the nature of the game. Having all or most of your money exposed in open positions is a sure fire way of ending up broke. To be a successful trader your bankroll needs to be able to handle significant swings that can arise as part of trading the markets.

Having just 2 or 3 trades worth of funds left in your account is going to affect the decisions you make as a trader as it becomes more important that you win those trades. Effective bankroll management allows traders to withstand a series of losing trades without it having an impact on their bankroll.

For most casual players a bankroll might not seem too important but trading the markets with an under funded bankroll can be a costly business. If you want to improve and be a profitable trader its important to be able to monitor how well you are doing while giving yourself the best possible chance of improving without having to break the bank time and time again.

The
Trading Spreads website offers a number of articles on bankroll management for the spread bettor. Defiantly worth a look if your serious about trading.

  1. Thanks for the insight. This is an aspect of financial spread betting that I had not considered. I usually consult the collection of articles at Finspreads (www.finspreads.com) but your site has a good collection too.
